FAQ

1. How do I prepare my mixes for mastering?

When you book a project with me, I’ll reach out to you to discuss what software you use to mix, and then I will send specific instructions for how to prepare your mixes for mastering. If you are new to this I have no issues walking you through the process.

The best files to send for mastering are .WAV files, peaking below -3 db to -5 db, with minimal compression and no limiter plugins on the master fader track.

If you would like a stem master (Maximum of 6 stems) The best way to bounce and group stems is the following:

  1. Kick

  2. Snare

  3. Shakers/High Hats/any other percussion

  4. Bass

  5. Chords/Harmonies/Leads/FX

  6. Lead Vocals/Background Vocals

All of these should be individual .WAV stems with at least -1 db of headroom. This will allow me to do analog summing for increased width and depth as well as balance the levels perfectly which would otherwise not be possible in a stereo master.

2. How do I pay?

All payments are made via PayPal. Choose your service, login to your Paypal account, upload your song and within 24-72 hours your mastered song will be delivered to the email you provided.

2. What’s the difference between mixing and mastering?

Mixing is the process of adjusting each individual tracks/individual instruments in a mix, and audio mastering typically only deals with the stereo output of a mix. Mastering comes after mixing and is the last creative musical process before letting the world hear your song on streaming platforms or CD’s. A good mastering engineer can also make a collection of songs feel like one well-blended and cohesive album.

3. What is Stem Mastering?

Stem mastering is NOT mixing your song. A stem master gives you the added benefit of balancing the levels more precisely between the elements in the song and using analog summing for increased width, separation and depth.
